MSI's principals come out of industry, bringing years of practical experience to each project
Lionel F. Joyce, President Mr. Joyce founded Market Strategies Inc.
in 1986. Prior to that, he was Vice President for Product Marketing for Sigma Research, Inc., where he was responsible for
developing three new business areas for the company involving test and measurement instruments, electro-optics devices, and
electro-mechanical systems.
Previous to that, Mr. Joyce held positions as General Sales Manager and Director of Marketing for Krautkramer Branson, a division
of General Electric, and the world's leading supplier of ultrasonic testing equipment with major operations in the U.S. and
Cologne, Germany.
Mr. Joyce has managed over 250 studies of market opportunities for new technologies for National Laboratory and corporate
clients. He has conducted seminars on market analysis in Technology Transfer for the Federal Laboratory Consortium, and on
business plan development for the SBIR.
Mr. Joyce is a former chairman of the Marketing Forum of the Washington Council of American Electronics Association, and a
member of the National Statistics and Surveys Committee. He has been active in the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing
and the Optical Society of America. He is listed in the Directory of Who's Who in Executives and Business.
Mr. Joyce earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Portsmouth University in England, and an M.B.A. from the University
of Connecticut. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Rodney T. Carlisle, Senior Project Manager
Mr. Carlisle joined MSI in
1994. As senior project manager for Market Strategies, Rodney Carlisle has conducted market research, business planning, and
marketing implementation projects in 36 countries and in technologies from medical ultrasound to refrigeration.
Mr. Carlisle has 20 years of experience in marketing, sales and management, specializing in new product and market development.
His technology emphasis has been in medical devices, electronics instrumentation, and HVAC systems.
Among the companies Mr. Carlisle has worked with are established market leaders like Advanced Technology Laboratories, and
more recently a number of start-up companies. Three of these companies in fetal monitoring, breathable liquids for respiratory
problems, and urology were co-founded by him. He has direct and in-depth experience of all the components of successful market
introductions including technology development, regulatory approval, luminary programs, strategic partnerships and reimbursement
issues.
Mr. Carlisle has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
John A. Davidson, European Operations
Mr. Davidson supports the European
operations of MSI from offices in Dijon, France.
Mr. Davidson has 25 years of experience in sales and marketing internationally. His responsibilities have encompassed international
dealer development in twenty-five countries, setting up joint ventures, development and implementation of acquisition strategies,
new product development, major contract negotiations, and management of key multinational accounts.
As a research engineer and subsequently in a sales role, he was involved in work in carbon products in electrical machinery
applications for Morgan Crucible of London, England.
His subsequent experience includes management roles in major multinational companies (Texaco, Lummus, Aveling Barford and
Howden) in lubrication products and heavy equipment for the construction, mining, chemical and automotive industries, as well
as with indigenous European companies such as Bayardon Frères of Macon, France.
Mr. Davidson has lived and worked for over thirty years in France and is fluent in written and spoken French. He has traveled
and worked extensively throughout Western Europe, Africa, and the former Eastern Bloc countries.
He is a registered professional engineer in the UK and in France and a member of the Belgium Institute of Petroleum.
Daniel E. McNulty, Partner
Mr. McNulty is a seasoned medical device executive
with 25 years of senior management experience in both the USA and in Europe. He currently specializes in bringing start-up
companies through the seed and venture-funded stages. He has an extensive background in diagnostic ultrasound and in applications
covered by the medical specialties of Radiology, Cardiovascular, OB/GYN, and Urology. He has been affiliated with Market Strategies
Inc. since 1996.
Most recently, Mr. McNulty served as President and CEO of InfraReDx, Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He led this start-up
medical device company in the development of innovative technologies to detect and drive therapy for patients with vulnerable
plaque. He negotiated and raised $13 million in private and venture capital financing for the company.
Prior to that, Mr. McNulty served as Executive Vice President of the Elbit Ultrasound Group and President of Diasonics Vingmed
Ultrasound Americas, a division of Elbit Ultrasound. General Electric Medical Systems acquired Elbit Ultrasound for $230 million
in April of 1998.
His background covers sixteen years with SmithKline Beckman where he fulfilled assignments as President of its Krautkramer
Branson International Division in Cologne, Germany. Subsequently he joined Acoustic Imaging as President and Chief Executive
Officer, growing the company in sales and stature until September 1991 when he sold the company to Dornier Medizintechnik
GmbH, a division of Daimler Benz.
Currently, Mr. McNulty serves as a director of MedimageWorld (SonoWorld.com), AccountAbility Outsourcing, Inc., and Novelis,
Inc.
Mr. McNulty holds a BA in Biology and an MS in Physiology from the Catholic University of America. He pursued additional graduate
studies at Michigan State University and the Northwestern Institute of International Management in Zurich, Switzerland.
Maxwell G. Maginness, PhD.
Dr. Maginness has extensive experience in
moving from concepts to robust, reliable and cost effective products in both FDA regulated and other industries. He has managed
multiple software intensive new product developments involving a wide range of unique hardware and mechanical designs.
He has more than 25 years experience in medical imaging technology, industrial equipment and research. His previous positions
include senior technical management and project responsibilities at Siemens Medical, ATL (now Philips Ultrasound), and with
Gretag Systems. He has extensive experience in complex multi-company and multinational projects in Europe, Japan, Korea and
India.
Previous to these Dr. Maginness held research positions at Stanford University and worked on technology development and business
planning for start-up companies.
Dr. Maginness has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He holds 8 US patents
and is the author of more than 30 publications. He has made numerous presentations to industry groups and university classes.
